Advice and assistance for former Southern Lurcher adoptees
As you may have read elsewhere on this site, in the 11 years that we operated as Southern Lurcher Rescue (aka. 'SLR'), we rehomed more than 700 hounds. We were able to do this because of the truly incredible chain of supporters who helped us with everything from assessing and transporting dogs that needed to come in, through to homechecking and mentoring new adopters.
The most important of all those supporters were our foster families. They were the ones who dropped everything to take in the latest hound in need - no matter its age, physical condition or behavioural issues - and then nursed it back to health and happiness before sending it on its way to a new 'forever family'. Sadly though, as people's circumstances changed, our pool of foster homes grew ever more narrow until, in early 2018, we were forced to close our doors as a rehoming rescue entirely. ... But, what about all those hundreds of hounds that passed through our doors, we hear you ask, surely you can't just forget about them? |

The short answer is, no - we could never forget about them - past or present!
As part of the rehoming process, Southern Lurcher fosterers were asked to provide us with regular updates on their charges via our forum, which we then used to promote them on the website and Facebook page. This method not only worked well to attract potential adopters, but also meant that all the 'SLR' forum members really got to know the dogs, especially the trustees.
So, whilst we may not have foster homes ready and waiting to take in adopted dogs who might one day find themselves in difficulties again, the Southern Lurcher Lifeline team will always do its very best to oversee the welfare of every single Southern Lurcher hound, past and present. ... And in fact, the very first donation we made under the 'Lifeline' banner was to another rescue who the trustees approached to take on a former SLR hound whose adopters could no longer cope.

Our Southern Lurcher Lifeline commitment includes:
- To advise and assist owners/carers of any hound adopted from Southern Lurcher Rescue
- To provide background information for and referrals to vets/behaviourists for former SLR hounds in need
- To assist with sourcing a rescue place for any former SLR hound that may again need to be rehomed
- To make a sponsorship donation to any rescue organisation that takes on a former SLR hound
- To never knowingly see any former SLR hound listed online as being 'free to a good home'
